27th October 2007-FIRST WOMAN TO HEAD SANDAKAN CUSTOMS

KOTA KINABALU: It was the proudest day for Norizam Zakaria yesterday when she became the first woman to take over the Sandakan District Customs chief post. The former Customs Internal Tax Division head succeeded Hamzah Sundang who leads the Customs Pasir Gudang district in Johor.
State Customs Department director Yusop Mansor said he was confident that Norizam would be able to carry her tasks well, and to continue the good track records of her predecessors. Her former post will be taken over by Lamit Sulaiman. Yusop disclosed that as of October 25 this year, the Customs had collected RM82,159,069.36 taxes in the City alone, which exceeded the target by . 83.63 percent.
Compared to the first nine months of last year, there was an increase of 18.92 per cent in the collection of revenue in the City.
“As of September last year, we collected RM65,894,214.69 for Kota Kinabalu only which is lower compared to the RM78,006,278.03 collected between January and September this year,” he said.
He added as of yesterday, the amount of tax collected for Kota Kinabalu stood at RM231 million, with an average collection of RM3 million daily.
